Connecting People & Place: How Local Governments Can Build Trust and Strengthen Communities

November 17, 2022

December 6th at 1:00 p.m. EST

The polarization that’s evident across politics and society today, to a great effect, reflects an underlying erosion of trust citizens have in government and in our institutions. It can also be attributed to a weakening of social ties, which connect communities and hold them together in difficult times.

Building trust and community must happen from the ground up, and local governments are on the front lines of this challenge: A majority of local leaders see waning citizen trust and engagement as core issues when it comes to meeting resident needs and delivering key services. City and county agencies can shape and improve how people interact with government and participate in civic life and thereby foster transparency, equity, accountability, and trust (and in the long run, be a place where residents want to call home, thus, increasing the tax base).

Join us for an insightful discussion with local government representatives and experts as we explore strategies and solutions cities and counties have implemented to engage communities and improve service delivery. We’ll highlight case examples and tools agencies can use to make government easier and more effective for both staff and residents. And we’ll share ideas about how local governments can rebuild trust and community by centering programs and services around people and place.
